Organic Elderberry Syrup

16oz pint mason jar of our magical elderberry elixir. Our syrup is made using the organic ingredients elderberries, star anise, cloves, rose hips, cinnamon, and ginger root in filtered well water and blended with raw local wildflower honey.

We have been making and selling our elderberry syrup for many years now, and while it absolutely sells itself I feel like it is so important to share the knowledge of why we use the ingredients we use and what the benefits are to you. While it is called a “syrup” it is not thick like a maple syrup. It is closer to the consistency of a cough syrup. All of our ingredients are either certified organic, or wildcrafted using the same organic processes free of chemicals. The elderberries that we grow ourselves and use are the only ingredient that is not “certified organic” as the cost of acquiring that certification is beyond our means. When we run out of our own organically grown elderberries we order from trusted companies to provide us with the organic berries we need to continue to provide you a quality medicinal product. Taking elderberry as a syrup, gummy, elixir, etc. has become increasingly popular for many reasons.

Elderberries themselves are known to be one of the top antiviral herbs on the planet. Their chemical compounds act as an immune booster. Elderberry is a viral fighter, scientifically proven to prevent and shorten the length of viruses like the common cold, and the flu. Herbalists know and trust this, and even western medicine doctors are now aware and recommending it’s use. I personally know of two people recently released from the hospital fighting covid-19 that have had their doctors recommend acquiring and taking elderberry syrup to assist them in their recovery. This is great news y’all! I believe that there is a place for all types of medicine, and it gives me hope to hear of those different approaches to medicine being used in tandem by professionals.
.
Now that we have talked about elderberry I want to share a little about the other powerful ingredients in our syrup. I actually want y’all to read this so I will try to keep it short. I know to some of you it may sound silly to call things like star anise, cinnamon, ginger, rose hips, clove, and honey powerful, but first please remember, food IS medicine, and second they really are all strong and powerful herbs in their own right.
.
Star anise is truly amazing. It is scientifically proven to be an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. However, in my mind, the most impressive part of star anise is it’s shikimic acid content. Shikimic acid derived from star anise is one of the main active ingredients in Tamiflu, the popular medication prescribed for the treatment of the flu. Other research has revealed that star anise extract is as effective as antibiotics against multiple drug-resistant pathogenic bacteria. This may be particularly useful for future development of new antibiotic medications. The powerful medicinal properties of star anise has made acquiring organic star anise increasingly expensive and difficult, but so worth it! Star anise is a proven viral fighter, especially against the flu, and with it’s ability to also be antibacterial it truly is a STAR!
.
Cinnamon, organic Ceylon cinnamon, is used in our elderberry syrup for it’s anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties, but it comes with other scientifically proven properties such as reducing cholesterol, heart disease, having a strong anti-diabetic effect, and even cancer fighting capabilities. Don’t just trust me; look it up!
.
Ginger is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It helps control nausea, assists with chronic indigestion, helps with pain from menstrual cramps, lowers cholesterol levels, helps joint pain, and even helps with pain as severe as osteoarthritis, can improve brain function and protect against Alzheimer’s, has antibacterial, and antiviral capabilities with scientific evidence of helping to fight the respiratory virus RSV. Gingerol, the bioactive substance, found in ginger is the reason we use organic ginger in our syrup. It is an extremely powerful anti-inflammatory.
.
Rose hips have been shown to have among the highest concentration of vitamin C of all fruits and vegetables. Vitamin C is extremely important to our bodies in the prevention and treatment of illness. Rose hips have a long and intense list of other benefits and uses, but for our application, and today’s “trying not to be so long education”, I think that’s a powerful enough punch, but please like with everything else, look them up! They really are amazing!
.
Cloves are powerful antioxidants, antimicrobial, and antibacterial. They are scientifically proven to kill multiple strains of bacteria. They have other benefits as well like cancer prevention and improving liver health. They are also chock full of vitamins and nutrients.
.
Raw local honey is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and high in antioxidants. The phytonutrients in honey are responsible for these properties. The reason for the honey being RAW is that the extreme high heat processes used to treat and refine honey can greatly reduce those properties. That is also why we add our honey last, and let the syrup cool down to below 140°, and when we seal our jars we use the steam canning method for only 10 minutes. Some of the healing properties are lost in the sealing process, but not even close to the degree that they are lost in the process of refining honey. The reason for LOCAL honey is that there is scientific evidence that the local pollens used to make the honey are the same local pollens that can cause you irritation, by ingesting those pollens processed by the bees into honey you can help your body to build immunities to those irritants.
.
If you have taken the time to read all of this then thank you! I tried to keep this as short as possible, and I encourage you to do your own research. Elderberry syrup is a powerful medicinal remedy, and we are grateful to you for trusting us to make it for you.
